Nixon Library Campus Remains Open Amid Government Shutdown Including the President’s Birthplace, East Room, Rose Gardens and Outdoor Exhibits

Museum Galleries are Temporarily Closed

YORBA LINDA, CA – Despite the federal government shutdown, the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum continues to welcome visitors to explore its campus. However, certain sections of the Library’s campus are temporarily closed.

Operated by the private, nonprofit Richard Nixon Foundation, the following areas remain open to visitors: President Nixon’s Birthplace and boyhood home, the President and First Lady’s Memorial Site, the White House East Room, the First Lady’s Rose Gardens, and the exterior of the presidential helicopter, along with the museum store.

Two exhibits will continue to be available during the shutdown:

The President and the Planet: Richard Nixon and the Environment: This exhibit explores the historical environmental initiatives of the Nixon era and the enduring impact of key environmental legislation, such as the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Environmental Policy Act, the Clean Air Act, the Marine Mammal Protection Act, the Endangered Species Act, and the Legacy of Parks Program.

Evening the Odds: Women Leading the Way: Highlighting the significant achievements of women in the 1960s and 1970s, this exhibit explores the lasting effects of President Nixon’s ratification of Title IX, which enabled equal opportunities for women to participate in athletics at public schools and universities.

All Richard Nixon Foundation events and privately contracted events scheduled to take place at the Nixon Library –including civic, social, and business functions– will proceed without interruption.

However, during the government shutdown, the public’s access to the museum galleries, the interior of the presidential helicopter, and the research room will all be restricted.

Admission to the Nixon Library will be offered at half-price during the government shutdown, with the following pricing in effect:

Adults: $8
Seniors (62+): $6
High School and College Students with ID: $5
Retired Military: $5
Active Military: Free
Children (5-11): $5
