The Governor’s Leadership in Education Reform is Keeping the American Dream Alive for the Next Generation
Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders was presented the Richard Nixon Foundation’s Champion of the American Dream Award at a luncheon ceremony in the Nixon Library’s East Room. The award recognizes Governor Sanders’ courage, clarity and deep commitment to American values demonstrated both in her current role as Governor of Arkansas and formally as White House Press Secretary.
The event featured a fireside chat between Governor Sanders and Steve Hilton, California gubernatorial candidate and political commentator. Their conversation focused on what motivates her leadership as governor and the importance of facing challenges head-on to secure a better future. Blending personal anecdotes with data, Governor Sanders emphasized her dedication to education, expressing her desire to be known as the “education governor.”
Everything else hinges on providing a strong foundation for children, said Governor Sanders. Every single kid should have the opportunity for success. It is not just a policy but something with real impact.
The Champion of the American Dream Award celebrates individuals who embody the ideals of hard work, service to others and an unwavering commitment to the promise of America, principles championed and exemplified by President Richard Nixon. Joe Lopez, acting President & CEO of the Nixon Foundation, was joined by Foundation supporter and civics education champion Doy Henley to present the award to Governor Sanders.
Proceeds from the luncheon support the Richard Nixon Foundation’s special exhibition “America 250: A More Perfect Union,” opening this November, and its yearlong programming.
At a pre-event reception, Governor Sanders addressed supporters and spoke about the Nixon Foundation’s mission and its emphasis on civic education.
It’s not just talking about our past but it’s really an investment in making sure that every single kid growing up in America knows what makes our country so special, what makes it unique, and that it’s worth fighting for.
Special thanks to the event’s host committee: Dr. James and Esther Cavanuagh, The New Majority, Doy Henley, Pam and Alexander Munro, The Honorable Will O’Neill, Ling and Charlie Zhang, Chapman University, and Richard (Sandy) Quinn.
